New CEO, Rachel Malthouse

The Gallang Place Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of our new CEO, Ms Rachel Malthouse.

Ms Malthouse is a Mbarbaram descendant from Far North Queensland who was born and raised in Brisbane, Queensland. She is passionate about breaking the cycle of intergenerational trauma within the First Nations community. Ms Malthouse comes to Gallang Place with a wealth of experience having worked nationally for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Alliance (NATSIWA), the Royal Commission into The Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and The Healing Foundation. Ms Malthouse has also volunteered her time as a member of the Reconciliation Action Plan Committee for the Caxton Street Legal Service and served as one of the members of the Reparations Panel for Queensland Reparations.

Ms Malthouse is an experienced Senior Manager with an extensive background working with Australian First Nation’s peoples and communities throughout Australia and has a demonstrated history of working for Non-Profit Organisations across Queensland and Australia. She has also held various Senior Management Roles within Government.

Ms Malthouse said she is looking forward to “supporting the board and leading Gallang Place as a trusted leader, who is trauma-informed and healing-aware with a firm understanding of policy reform.”

Gallang Place has been delivering social and emotional wellbeing in South East Queensland for the past 27 years, delivering social and emotional wellbeing through healing and counselling by qualified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander personnel.

The Chairperson of the Board, Ivan Ingram, said “Rachel brings a fresh perspective to community healing for Gallang Place. With a wealth of experience in the sector, and recognition in community, we are looking forward to continuing our healing journey with community throughout Queensland.”

The Board of Directors are confident that Ms Malthouse will further enhance the ethos and mission of Gallang Place and will lead the organisation into it’s next chapter.
